Cold Weather Old Rag SAR

Am I crazy for being disappointed that I wasn't involved in this?

The article is intriguing since it's indicating that he was both "awake and talking" but also "flown out". Knowing nothing about the situation, I'm guessing he had a non-ambulatory injury and it was safer for all involved to just fly him out. Either way, an emergency bivouac on the summit in January doesn't sound like much fun. Thankfully he was found relatively quickly and the article leads me to believe that he will survive whatever injuries he has sustained.

  1. I am not sure why but I just found your blog through Silver Spring Wanderer. I also was amazed that the hiker seemed to have done so well over night and did not get "found" until noon since some folks had been all the way up to the summit earlier. If they did not say they had established search area containment I might have suspected that the lost person may have not been lost at all but rather somewhere else and decided he better get lost and found on Old Rag and not somewhere else.

  2. Hey Ben. I was privileged to be part of this SAR (sorry to be posting so late about it, I just found your blog recently). I'd be happy to share more info with you regarding it, just shoot me an email.
